Public Service Notice No 43 – How not to conduct a Requiem...

Father Z has a great little article on the liturgical problems that many people face with modern funerals.

That being said, please, never, ever do anything like that at my funeral. Just to document it for everyone, please say a full Requiem, if possible under the rubrics have the Dies Iræ chanted (with a translation handed out), and pray for me. I know I am nowhere near ready to behold the beatific vision yet, and I need the prayers of my friends and family.

Which is worse...

... sacrilege due to anger, or indifference:

Freedom of What Act?

FOCA... Well let's be honest here it's not any kind of freedom of choice. I'm not even sure pro- choice is about any kind of freedom of choice. They talk a big talk about a woman having a "choice", about all of us having a "choice". In reality the minute you choose life your choice is null and void. You are no longer qualified to make a choice, have an opinion, or have any say in the matter. Funny how that works out. My hope is that the pro- choice people out there will see that FOCA is bad for them too. It violates personal freedoms that we take for granted in this country.

Suck... It... Up...

It's nice to see people stand in contrast to the phenomenon I saw someone call "happy gas":

The president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, Cardinal Stanyslaw Rylko, said this week, “The time has come to free ourselves from our false hang-ups of inferiority towards the secular world and courageously be ourselves, disciples of Christ.”

Why is everyone asking about Bill Ayers?

Could this be it:

In a new afterword to his 2001 book, Bill Ayers, former leader of the 1960s radical group Weather Underground, describes President-elect Barack Obama as a “family friend” and denies he wished his group had set off more bombs in the 1960s.

Ayers, a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, adds few new details about his relationship with Obama in the afterword to Fugitive Days: Memoirs of an Anti-War Activist. The book is being reissued this month.

Let the Indoctrination Begin

So we want our kids to learn how to think on their own right. We want them to be able to come to logical conclusions, have their own opinions, and make their own way through life. We don't want them to be zombies. But for some reason we can't seem to actually let them do it. Let's look at the recent election. Most kids I would say don't understand much of anything about any of the issues. But they all seem to have an opinion on who should be president. Where could they come up with an opinion on things they don't understand.

A Nice Letter That Addresses Both Sides of the results of the Election

Posted by Fr. Z over at WDTPRS. This is nice and concise, and hits the two nails on the head, when it comes to the two major possible errors people have in their mind after the election.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Kids and Bribery

Well I caught an interesting article in the Times today http://parenting.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/11/13/paying-kids-to-be-good/ . It's about how parents bribe their children to behave. It's about how parents bribe their kids for everything. They pay them for good behavior, good grades, and anything else under the sun. This mom had to admit she did it too. She referenced a blogger who admitting to paying her kids $1 a day to behave.
