I say potential because the prenatal tests that determine it are not 100% conclusive. That being said some percentage of perfectly healthy babies are aborted out of fear that they might have had Down's Syndrome. This is revolting to me, especially considering how functional most are. So an article came to my attention http://catholickey.blogspot.com/2009/09/touchdown-for-down-syndrome-play... that once again proves that people are wrong about Down's Syndrome. I dare you to take a look at the video and tell me that kid doesn't deserve to live. You might think it's just football — so what. The truth is we don't credit Down's Syndrome kids with having the mental capacity or physical ability to play sports on a regular sports team. They do have skills that they can use in the longterm. Kids like this one will be able to hold a job and possibly be married and have a family of their own. You may not believe it, but it is true.
It's important to remember kids like this when we're faced with difficult decisions (that shouldn't be decisions in my mind). When you're looking at that ultrasound and a doctor says down syndrome, remember these kids. Don't let the doctor or anyone else convince you that your child will be a "burden" on society or that they don't deserve to live. Think about it.
